Our Johnson County, Kansas law firm located in Leawood is a veteran-owned business. One of our attorneys and owners, George Thomas, had a prior career as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps before attending law school and becoming an attorney. He attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) on a Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) scholarship from 1986 to 1990.
When he graduated in 1990, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. As an intelligence officer on active duty, he was deployed in various parts of the world in the early and mid-1990s. He left active duty in the mid-1990s, and was reassigned to the Marine Corps reserves until the year 2000. These experiences gave him real-world leadership and operational experience that is very rarely found in practicing attorneys today. Mr. Thomas also gained a deep appreciation of the importance of accomplishing assigned missions and leading by example.
Stationed in Okinawa, Japan, for two years, Mr. Thomas participated in operations in various countries in East Asia, including South Korea and Japan. He also served as part of the Peace Stabilization Force in Bosnia and other parts of the former Yugoslavia. During this tour he was awarded the NATO Medal for Bosnia and the Joint Service Achievement Medal. “Major Thomas,” his citation reads, “consistently demonstrated the ability to provide sound leadership as the Section Commander and was quite adept as a human intelligence operator as well…Challenged with vast operational distances, Major Thomas easily adapted to these limitations…His dedication to the mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia reflects great credit upon him, the United States Marine Corps, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and the Department of Defense.”
Our firm understands the needs and special circumstances of veterans, because one of our founding and managing partners is himself a veteran. During our twenty-three years of servicing clients, we have represented many hundreds of veterans of all ages, and from all branches of the armed services. We believe our experience and dedication in this area gives us unique insight to the special legal problems that veterans and their families can face.
Difficult deployment schedules, financial issues and burdens, dealing with the Veterans Administration system, post-traumatic stress disorder, addiction issues, and physical injuries can weigh heavily on veterans and their families. Trying to explain these unique problems to people who were not in the armed services can be problematic. We are one of the few law firms in the area with veteran ownership. We are different from other firms because we understand veterans’ backgrounds, challenges, and perspectives. Let us help you remove these burdens, and move forward into the future with a fresh start.
